If you are aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, not enrolled at another educational institution and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years, your course will be FREE. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips.

If you are aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, not enrolled at another educational institution and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years, your course could be free dependant on the level of the course and your eligibility criteria. This course is aimed for people aged 19 years or over.

We offer GCSE Foundation Maths for those aiming to achieve a pass grade 4 and GCSE Higher Maths for those aiming to build upon their pass grade and achieve a higher grade.

The emphasis is very much on using and applying mathematics to solve the types of problems that you may meet in your jobs and everyday lives.

Entry Criteria

  • GCSE Foundation Maths
    For you if you have not achieved a high grade 4 (C) in GCSE Maths.

    If you have not yet achieved a GCSE Maths high pass grade 4 (C) you will not need to pay for the course.

    You will also be eligible for Functional Skills Maths so you will be required to complete a test to help us enrol you on the right course.

  • GCSE Higher Maths
    For you if you have achieved a high grade grade 4 (C) in GCSE Maths but wish to improve your grade.

    There is a fee for those who already hold a GCSE grade of 4 (C) or above.

What are the next steps?

Your briefing session with the tutor will last 45 minutes and give you an overview of the course, its requirements, start dates and assessment measures.

Please bring copies of your certificates for your previous Maths qualifications.

Study Aims

  • GCSE Foundation Maths
    Our GCSE Foundation Maths course aims to develop your skills and understanding at solving mathematical problems, many of which you encounter regularly in real life. This course is for those wishing to achieve a pass grade 4 (or strong pass grade 5).
  • GCSE Higher Maths
    Our GCSE Higher Maths course aims to challenge your mathematical ability so you can develop your skills and understanding at solving mathematical problems to improve on a grade 4 (or strong pass grade 5) and achieve up to a grade 6-9.

Modules Studied

The specification for both the GCSE Foundation Maths and GCSE Higher Maths qualification can be found online. All content will be covered.

Times of Delivery

  • Monday - 5pm-8pm,
  • Wednesday - 5pm-8pm

Any times indicated are based on current courses and may be subject to change in future years. Full timetables will be confirmed at the start of each course.

Teaching and Assessment

You will have one 3-hour lesson in college each week.

Lessons will focus on working on gaps in knowledge or skills and then measuring progress in order to set targets. During your first lesson you will be assessed to assign you to the right level and support will be put in place.

You may have to sit a diagnostic assessment before the course begins to make sure you are on the most suitable GCSE qualification.

Throughout the year you will sit termly mock exams that will allow you to experience a paper in exam conditions.

There will be regular assessment opportunities in lessons for you to understand how you are progressing.
