“My time studying at New ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵAPP¹ÙÍø Durham provided me with the theory behind teaching and learning, as well as supporting me to learn about myself"
Alicia studied at New ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵAPP¹ÙÍø Durham whilst working full-time as a Transition Support Worker in a secondary school.
She said:
“I wanted to become a primary school teacher and the course provided me with knowledge, enhanced my confidence and develop my understanding of education to apply in a classroom context.
“The skills and experience gained throughout studying at New ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵAPP¹ÙÍø Durham helped to prepare me for a range of careers working with children and young people. Completing my degree put me in a position where there were many different routes that suited my desired personal and professional ambitions.
“Since graduating in the summer of 2019, I completed a one-year Schools Direct PGCE programme to become a qualified primary school teacher. From that, I was offered a job at my placement school and have almost completed my first year as a newly qualified teacher.
“I absolutely love life as a teacher! I still don’t feel old enough to have an adult career but I am having so much fun. I am teaching such a lovely group of Year 3 pupils in a very deprived area – it is a lot of work but so rewarding!â€
Alicia is now a fully qualified Primary School Teacher.
