If you are interested in studying A Levels at New ƵAPP Durham please just complete one application form and you will be able to choose your subjects once you have had your interview. You do not need to apply for each of the subjects you are interested.

This will provide you with transferable skills in order to approach tasks in other A-Level subjects with more confidence. It is offered as an additional skills-based subject that involves the submission of a written report of between 1,000 and 5,000 words, supported by a diary and enhanced by a verbal, written or visual presentation.

Entry Criteria

This course is studied as an additional qualification, by second year students who are predicted to achieve at least 3 grades at A*-C in their A-Level subjects.

What are the next steps?

You will meet with a course tutor; please bring a copy of your GCSE grades or predicted GCSE grades.

Study Aims

Undertaking an extended project allows learners to explore a topic which extends their learning in their area of study. You will select one of the four units, which you will complete alongside studying A-Levels. The project topic you select should expand your learning in a related or relevant area, regarding your chosen area of study or personal interests. Each of the four units offer a different type of project: a dissertation, an investigation/field study, a performance or an artefact. You will be assessed on your ability to plan, manage, complete and review your project. It can be completed over one or two years, and is assessed internally and moderated externally.

Modules Studied

You will be required to study A-Levels alongside this course in order to meet the minimum entry requirements for university. It will be solely down to you to decide a topic for the project.

Teaching and Assessment

You will be assigned a tutor who will guide you through the process of the project. Ultimately, this project requires independent study, and by the end of the qualification you will have given a presentation, produced a dissertation, an investigation/field study and a performance or an artefact.
